Allen Birnbach has been passionately involved with both fine-art and commercial photography for more than 30 years.  Originally attracted to the fine art side of the business, he moved to the commercial world to help finance his personal projects. Happily, he discovered that shooting commercial assignments helped elevate the quality of his fine art work while allowing him to travel to dozens of amazing locations throughout the world.

He’s worked for American Airlines in London, Bristol-Myers Squibb in New Zealand, and the DII Group in China.  He’s photographed members of the Iceland Dance Company in bubbling mud pots outside Reykjavik and dog teams in the Iditarod Race in Alaska.

Whether he’s photographing dancers, athletes, models, products, or landscapes, Birnbach brings vitality and exuberance to every assignment. He seeks to portray life in all its beauty, masterfully creating elegant images with a distinct sense of graphic content.  For one of his best-known projects, he spent 13 years documenting the lives of ranchers in Colorado. Rather than focus on the grittiness of their daily lives, he shot images that express the strength and power of the human spirit.

Birnbach is an avid student of both culture and technology, and credits his liberal arts degree with giving him the range of knowledge he needs to communicate with clients and executives from all types of industries and all over the globe.

He shares his deep love of the art of photography through teaching. Birnbach is an instructor at the UCLA Extension in Los Angeles, the Panasonic Digital Photo Academy, and Working with Artists, a Colorado-based, non-profit community art school for students ranging from teenagers to retirees.  He also provides dozens of practical technical tips for capturing great images through his blog entitled “A Better Photograph.” (http://www.abetterphotograph.blogspot.com)
