2008 Dia de Muertos in Seattle, WA
Mexican cultural association Taller Mexicano para la Cultura y las Artes presents Dia de Muertos - a celebration of Mexican culture at the Seattle Center - as part of the venue's annual Festál programme.
This is a very specific celebration that honours loved ones and ancestors who have passed away - a unique way that the Mexican people approach the difficult inevitability of La Muerte (death) with humour, sadness and passion. The event includes altars and ofrendas, art exhibits, a monumental sand painting, art workshops, short films and animations, processions and more and is suitable for all ages.

2008 American Sandsculpting Championship Festival in Fort Myers Beach, FL
They say the sand on Fort Myers Beach is the best in the world for sculpting and to prove it every year around 65,000 spectators and artists gather at the Outrigger Beach Resort for the American Sandsculpting Championship Festival.
By mixing water, sugar, fine white sand and artistic talent, masters and amateurs transform the beach into an art show. Check out the Master Sculptors Competition or participate in the amateur's contest. The Sand Magic Village has artisan and food booths on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. All five days feature broadcast music, demonstrations and beach barbecues.
The event takes place on Fort Myers Beach between the Outrigger Beach Resort and the Holiday Inn Beach Resort.

2008 Cinemania in Montreal, Canada
Yes, there are plenty of film festivals in Montreal, but Cinemania is an exploration of the best French-speaking films of the year in a friendly cine-club atmosphere at the Cinéma Impérial, subtitled in English. What's not to love?

2008 Women's Golf Challenge in Waikoloa, HI
The annual Waikoloa Women's Golf Challenge takes place at Waikoloa Beach Resort. Golfers from across the country take part.
The practice round & draw party take place on Friday, with the competition on Saturday and Sunday. Proceeds from the 2008 event go to the Hawaii State Women's Golf Foundation & the Waikoloa Foundation.

2008 Green Festival in Washington D.C., DE
Dubbed "the parties with a purpose", Green Festival events are held four times a year in Seattle (April), Chicago (May), Washington DC (November) and San Francisco (November). Green businesses and visionary speakers cover aspects of ethical, sustainable and green living.
Each event, organised by two non-profit organisations: The Global Exchange and Co-Op America, draws over 30,000 visitors. Popular stands include The Power Foods Pavilion, Outdoor Tea Garden, Green Living Workshop and The Fair Trade Pavilion.
The San Francisco festival is by far the biggest, with an extra day added for a range of events. Past guest speakers include Alice Walker and Medea Benjamin.

2008 Jamaican Jerk Festival in Sunrise, FL
The Jamaican Jerk Festival at Markham Park, Sunrise, has become one of the major Caribbean events in the city, with cook-off contests, demonstrations and as much jerk chicken as you can eat.
A culture corner, children's fun zone, domino competitions, Jamaican craft stalls and live music add to the fun.

2008 WhiskeyFest in New York City, NY
Held at the upmarket New York Marriott Marquis in Times Square, the New York WhiskeyFest evening gives enthusiasts the chance to appreciate some of the world's finest blends and single malts.
More than 200 of the world's finest, rarest and most expensive whiskies are available for sampling during what has become one of the largest independent whiskey events in the US. Visitors can taste the finest single malt and blended Scotch and Irish whiskies, the best bourbons and Tennessee whiskies and the best from Canada. High-end rums, tequilas and beer are also on the menu, as well as food throughout the night to soak it all up with.
The focus is on education. Distillery representatives are on hand at the pouring booths to explain how the whiskies are made and there is a chance to listen to a range of guest speakers.

2008 Jewish Film Festival in Boston, MA
The Boston Jewish Film Festival (BJFF) is an annual, non-competitive festival which screens an impressive selection of Jewish-themed international movies at a number of venues in the Boston area. It takes films of all genres and lengths, and frequently invites directors to introduce and discuss their work.
Founded with ten screenings in 1989, this is now a fairly large festival with venues in Danvers, Sharon, Hanover and Randolph as well as Boston proper. It usually screens around 50 films from all over the world and encourages contributions from local writers, academics and filmmakers.

2008 Blue Angels' Air Show in Pensacola, FL
World-famous precision air display team the Blue Angels gives its last show of the year, at home at Pensacola Naval Air Station.
After the Second World War the Chief of Naval Operations ordered that a flight demonstration team was to be set up to showcase naval aviation. On June 15th, the newly-named Blue Angels (named after New York's famous nightclub of the same name) gave their first display.
Having celebrated their 60th anniversary in 1986, the Blue Angels have delighted audiences all over the world, and it is estimated that they have flown in front of around 393 million people in their history.
